Last September 28, 2012, I received a package from Florida, USA. Actually, I did not.

I woke up with the sun up high in the sky. It was past twelve and my grandpa told me a guy from the postal office went to our home and was looking for someone named “lee t. deviant”. That was me. Well, technically not but it’s my name here in cyberspace: Lee, The Deviant. I claimed the name and the title to hide myself in the cloud of anonymity.

No one in our family knows that I am an anonymous blogger (which is actually perfect) so he told the postal office guy that “lee” does not live in our home. I had no choice but to go to the postal office and claim the package myself and tell them my secret identity like I was superhero or what. Luckily, they believed me despite the fact that I have no identification cards or documents to prove I am “lee.” I have nothing but plain stories.

The package was from Mr. Jeremy Myers of j-j-j-j-j-j. I was ecstatic because seeing his name alone, I knew what’s inside — a camera. But it was really a surprise since there’s no notice from him confirming my participation. I was lucky enough to be part of his worldwide photography project entitled “in disposables.”

Mr. Myers is a photographer who is into film photography. In his project: in disposables, he sends film cameras to participants from different parts of the world. Fortunately, I am one from the Philippines.

I received the package in a small and lightweight box and here’s what’s inside:

a Kodak Funsaver Disposable Camera and a letter from Mr. Myers. Again, I was ecstatic jumping in the air as if I won the lottery. There and there I thought of a concept that will somehow showcase a little bit of our world as Filipinos.

It was a milestone for me. It was my first time to deal with film and I hope my shots, the photographs, will be a good enough for to showcase our world and be worthy addition to Jeremy’s worldwide photography project.

Jeremy, you know how happy I am to be part of your project and I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity. You are awesome!

Few months ago, I decided to take my blogging to another level. I stopped reblogging posts no matter how tempting they can be and posted all original content for my blog. It is not easy but I’m trying my best to deliver quality posts you deserve.

This year, 2013, expect more all original content posts from me and let’s just celebrate the beauty and art of life.

Chocolate Covered Apple

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” they say. No doubt, an apple is really a healthy and yummy choice but don’t you want to satisfy your sweet cravings with chocolate, too?

Health benefits

Apple is rich in vitamins and minerals which help keep the body be healthy and strong against infection and other diseases. On the other hand, chocolate is abundant in neurotransmitter called “serotonin” also known as a happy hormone which regulate arousal, temperature, mood, appetite, sleep and pain. Combine the two and enjoy the benefits of a bittersweet taste of health.

The recipe

Give an apple a twist! It’s simple and fun and yummy, too! All you need are the following ingredients and a little creativity.

Ingredients:

Easy-melt chocolate. There are three basic varieties of chocolate you can choose from: dark, cream white or milk chocolate. Here are some tips for picking the right chocolate for you:

Dark chocolate if you want a bittersweet taste on your apple

Milk Chocolate if you want the sweet and creamy flavor of milk; and

Cream white chocolate for the same creamy flavor but of course the chocolate is white

Apple. There are a lot of varieties of apple, too. Whatever apple you like for whatever reason, make sure they are fresh and will last long enough until you eat them.
Sprinkles, candies, nuts and/or crushed cookies for coating (optional)
Popsicles sticks / Barbeque sticks
Water

And that’s it! You are ready to cook your very own Chocolate Covered Apple!

Directions:

Add sufficient amount of tap water on a pressure cooker
Place a wide-mouth glass bowl on top of the pressure cooker. Make sure it will cover the mouth of the pressure cooker and will not fall inside of it.
Boil the water; and while waiting for the water to boil, prepare the apples.
Wash the apples thoroughly to keep them clean and fresh.
Twist off the stem of the apple (or not) and push the Popsicle/BBQ stick down from the top passing through the core. Important: Do not peel the apple because the juice will escape the chocolate and will perish in just few hours.
When the water is boiling and the bowl is warm, drop the chocolate and let it melt until its completely liquefied
Constantly stir the chocolate to remove solid particles and prevent it from burning; add a tablespoon of water if the chocolate is too thick and as necessary
Grab the apple holding on the popsicles sticks and using a spoon, scoop melted chocolate and pour it down from the crown of the apple until its completely covered
Place the apple in a saucer and let the chocolate set; and just before the chocolate completely dry
Add your optional sprinkles on it or roll it over your favorite nuts and candies of your choice!

And it’s ready to serve! Keep it refrigerated if you’re not going to serve it right away. Remember that apple is perishable and only last for 4 days to a week. Enjoy!

The word “photography” originated from the Greek word “photo” which means light and “graph” which means lines or drawing, together meaning “drawing with light”.

Photography is the art and science of generating images by recording light chemically by use of light sensitive material such as a film or electronically by use of an image sensor.

These two distinct ways form the dichotomy of photography: the film photography and digital photography.

What is the purpose of photography?

Photography is often used for documentation of everyday events, milestones, or anything under or even beyond the sun basically to capture and record history.

It is also used for visual arts, representation and expression of but not limited to thoughts, feelings and emotions which involves artistry and craft.

Who can be a photographer?

Technically, a person who takes a picture or photograph is a “photographer” and yes, anyone can be a photographer even without proper training or education.

Perhaps the most common subject of amateurs who are just starting in the field of photography is a beautiful flower.

A professional photographer however is a person who practices photography for monetary compensation or as a livelihood. Most of the professional photographers have formal education and training with photography.

How to be a photographer?

Although photography may look so easy, it can be complex since it involves technicalities like composition, understanding of light and lighting, understanding of terminologies like aperture, shutter speed, ISO and many more, and post-processing.

But in actuality, you just need to have two things to start with photography: A camera and the rest of the world.

Sweet tooth? No, Diabetes!

Are you always eyeing for something to eat not particularly but most likely sweets? May be it’s not just a sweet tooth. It could be diabetes.

More yummy desserts?

It’s common for [us (clears throat)] teenagers to always look for something to eat especially sweets. Why? Because their body demands it! During adolescence, the body is in a complete process of transition from a cute little child to a beautiful young adult. Teenagers are more active during this stage that’s why they need more energy, more calories. They are engaged with different activities like sports. Well, that’s the case before they learned to surf the internet, lie in their couch whole day while eating. That’s the danger of it. They eat but they don’t learn to burn and use the calories they take.

Diabetes primarily affects the intake of cells with glucose (sugar). Glucose serves as fuel or food for the cells to function and if you have diabetes your cells can’t take food despite of its abundance; they’re hungry and can’t function well and so as you. And just to warn you, it can be fatal.

Diabetes is hereditary. It can run through families. When you have a family member with diabetes, your risk is higher than anyone else. But it is also a lifestyle disease. Those couch-potato type of guy, obese and can’t stop their mouth on chewing food are most likely to acquire it.

There few things to watch that could light a signal that you have one. There are three actually — polyphagia (excessive hunger), polydipsia (excessive thirst) and polyuria (excessive urination). These are classic signs that most probably, you have diabetes. You can also watch for signs and symptoms like weight loss, weakness and fatigue, numbness of hands and feet, and slow wound healing. If you are experiencing this, you must consult your primary health care provider.

Don’t deny it because you are a teenager, just hungry or so. When grabbing an extra dessert, think twice. Take care of your health, eat well, exercise and sleep tight. Healthy is the new sexy!

It’s a common notion that men are not that interested with fashion because it’s kind of womanly or so. But the fact is men also struggle with what they should wear, how to mix and match and stuff. People may not see men shop like a gaga for clothes but men actually care for the incontestably feminine word ‘fashion’.

End the struggle

If you can’t afford to buy gazillion clothes for your everyday fashionable look, learn what particular items you should invest with. Dude, here’s a list:

The Preppy

Plain tees. Perhaps the most common thing in a guy’s closet with exception to his underwear is a plain T-shirt. Plain tees are perfect for its simplicity. Pick neutral colors like white, black or brown for easier cohesiveness with other piece of your look. Plain white T-shirt enhances your masculinity. It highlights the shape of your torso with emphasis on your chest and stomach/abs. It draws the attention to your body and not to the shirt. Pick black if you want to look a little slender and brown for a classic sexy look.

Jeans. Denim jeans work perfectly with almost anything in your closet and they are really durable. They may be quite expensive but are worth every penny. They are also perfect for casual and semi-formal attire. Buy a pair of jeans that fits you. Get rid of neon colored skinny jeans! A neutral classic fit or slim fit will do. Try black slim fit denim jeans to make you look slender and taller.

Loafers. This slip-on shoe is incredibly comfy and stylish too. Loafers are low, lace-less slip-on shoe.They are great for casual attire for outdoors spree and works well for formal suit. You can use them with or without socks, with pants or shorts. Loafers made of patent leather are great for formality but try loafers with waxy finish; they are great for style.

Belt. Used to secure your pants from slipping down, a belt is a basic fashion accessory. However, you must be careful with a common mistake in fashion: the belt and shoe color mismatch. Try to look for dual color leather belts (most commonly black and brown) for easier flip-flop match with your shoes.

Going Formal

Button-Down Shirt/Long-Sleeves. Level up your plain tees with a button-down shirt or long-sleeves. It is a must for everyday work in the corporate world and never goes out of style. Again take note of the neutral colors. In addition, try blue – the calming color. It has a calming and relaxing effect on people. It also makes you look friendly and approachable.

Tie. With no distinct function, a necktie is a must-have decorative accessory for formal attires. Grab one that is in contrast with the color of your button-down shirt or long-sleeves.

Trousers. It is a fundamental element in men’s fashion. So invest with a good pair of trousers. It can save you in almost every occasion!

Coat Jacket. Whether for warmth or for fashion, coat jacket is a men fashion must have. A coat jacket is a jacket that resembles a coat. It lets you look formal, refined, classy but not boring. If you’re working in an office or attending a formal event, be free from the classic tuxedo and embrace your youth with coat jackets!

The bottom-line

Men may look pretty much laidback in the way they choose and wear clothes but they actually care for how they present themselves to other people. For now, go for the basics. Choose whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. Then, go out and explore!
